Our Story.
Fat Hen Farmhouse is the realization of a dream started in 2010 when our founder, Jennifer , who married a 7th generation farmer, decided to sell eggs to the local community. Jennifer has grown Fat Hen Farmhouse from a flock of 15 hens to now offer a wide variety of retail meat products and pantry items.
In the beginning, eggs and custom beef shares were sold from the farm and there was a drastic increase in the demand for locally-raised farm products. This encouraged us to grow and begin selling our beef, pork, poultry and increase our laying hens to over 300.
Everything produced at Fat Hen Farmhouse is small-batch, free-range and pasture-raised. Our farm-grown products are USDA inspected and raised naturally, without added hormones or antibiotics. Buying our products ensures your meals are made of the best quality ingredients produced locally. We have a bakery license which also allows us to make delicious baked goods, such as homemade noodles and bread. Our family farm takes pride in raising nutritious and flavorful food for families like ours.
How did we get our name?
Our name comes from Jennifer’s grandmother, Lyndall, who would always purchase an old fat hen “because that is what made our noodles taste best” when she fed her large family at holiday gatherings. Her words resonate to this day when Jennifer is in the kitchen and running the family business.
